The United Nations General Assembly has passed a resolution on the status of the occupied Palestinian areas. Russia approves it, says the Foreign Ministry press and information department.
The resolution does not clash with essential international legal premises of final Israeli-Palestinian conflict settlement, the department says in a statement circulated today.
Russia clings to its previous stance on the issue: it takes the Parties' mutual agreement, reached at the negotiating table, to settle the entire range of final status issues-in particular, refugee and East Jerusalem problems, territorial demarcation, and Jewish settlements in Palestine.
Crisis settlement is to get out of its deadlock as soon as possible to resume Mideastern peace efforts, proceeding from the Road Map and UN Security Council resolutions Nos. 242, 338, 1397 and 1515. The world ought to step up relevant teamwork under the aegis of the four international mediators.
The Four met at a ministerial level in New York City, May 4, to confirm the international legal premises of Mideastern settlement. It takes team efforts to implement conference achievements, and Russia will do all it can to promote such efforts to urgently bring developments back to normal, and achieve lasting and all-round conflict settlement, the statement goes on.
The Palestinian delegation offered the UN General Assembly a resolution on the final status of East Jerusalem and other occupied Palestinian lands. The Assembly passed it in a majority vote yesterday. The document confirms Palestinians' right of self-determination and sovereignty of their lands in compliance with international legal principles and United Nations and its Security Council resolutions.
The document strongly calls to work for just and comprehensive Mideastern settlement, to be achieved by negotiations on the basis of safe coexistence of two independent states-Israel and Palestine.
