With EU entry, Estonia may see higher prices on sugar and gasoline

When Estonia enters the European Union on May 1, duties will rise on imports of sugar, gasoline, bananas and some other exotic fruits, and thus retail prices may, too. According to today's edition of the newspaper Postimees, retail sugar prices are expected to rise in the range of euro 0.4-1 per kilo; banana prices are expected to rise in the range of euro 0.6-1.3 euro per kilo, and gasoline (95 EURO) is expected to rise in price in the range of euro 0.6-0.8 per liter.

As reported by a Rosbalt correspondent, lines were observed today outside Tallin filling stations, and in stores consumers appeared to be stocking up on sugar.
