The Ukraine Foreign Ministry is dismayed at the refusal by the United States to pay compensation to the family of Taras Protsyuk, a Ukrainian television camera operator killed in Iraq. Markiyan Lubkivsky, chief of the ministry press service, said: 'We very much regret that our arguments failed to be taken into account by the American side.' He expressed hope that the US would rethink its position with respect to the family of the slain man.
Protsyuk worked for Reuters, the news agency. He was killed April 8, 2003, when a US tank in Baghdad fired on the Palestine Hotel, where many foreign journalists were staying. According to the findings of an investigation conducted by US Forces Central Command, the tank fired after it was attacked.
