Wladimir Klitschko failed to win championship

Wladimir Klitschko was stopped by journeyman Lamon Brewster after five rounds Saturday night. The scan was recommended by a ring doctor, who was alarmed at what she saw as the fifth round drew to a close in the fight for the fringe WBO title.

Wladimir Klitschko's precautionary brain scan proved normal, and the heavyweight boxer was released from a local hospital.

The Ukrainian now must decide whether he'll fight again. Klitschko's trainer said before the bout that the boxer should retire if he lost.

Two left hooks by Brewster midway through the fifth turned the fight around, and Klitschko went down for a second time after the bell sounded to end the round.

Brewster was on his stool getting ready for the sixth round as Klitschko tried to get off the canvas. When he finally did, Klitschko was so wobbly that referee Robert Byrd had no choice but to stop the fight, report contracostatimes.com

According to miami.com the victory elevates Brewster's profile in the division and removes Klitschko from the title mix. Klitschko's brother, Vitali, will fight Corrie Sanders for the vacant WBC crown April 24.

Earlier on the card, Cory Spinks (33-2) scored an 11th-round knockdown and overcame a knockdown in the final round to retain his world welterweight title with a unanimous decision over Zab Judah (30-2).
