Armenia wait for new Azerbaijani leader to open talks on Nagorny Karabkh

Attempts to resolve the Nagorny Karabakh conflict have been temporarily brought to a halt. According to Armenia television channel, this was announced by Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian at a meeting with members of an Armenian youth movement. He said that the new president of Azerbaijan, Ilkham Aliev, still has not spoken of his position on the issue and it is not clear whether or not he will choose to pursue the negotiations that his predecessor and father Geidar Aliev led or whether he wants to start everything from scratch. However, Mr Oskanian said, it has been said that the Azerbaijani leader does not want a lengthy negotiations process. The Armenian minister said that the Karabakh problem is only territorial in that Azerbaijan has no legal or historic claims to Nagorny Karabakh.
