The Archpriest Choir of the Epiphany Cathedral of Kostroma (an ancient town 300 kilometers to the southwest of Moscow) began its Italian tour with a concert in the church of Sant Ignatio (Rome) on Friday. Archpriest Alexander of Kostroma and Galich attended the concert. The choir performed religious compositions by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Chesnokov, Bortnyansky and other Russian composers of the 19th-20th centuries.
The tour was organized by the Russian and Italian Rotary-clubs at an invitation from the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity for the sake of rapprochement of the Russian Orthodox and Catholic Churches, President of the Moscow Rotary-Renaissance Club told RIA Novosti.
After the concerts in Rome, the choir will perform in Perugia, Arezzo and Bari (the Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas).
