Nobel Prize Winner: Shuvalovo campus could house EUR 1.5 billion technology park

The EUR 1.5 billion Russian-German joint project World Dialogue for the creation of a national technology park in St. Petersburg could be arranged on the territory of the academic campus in Shuvalovo, said Nobel prize winning physicist Zhores Alferov in a briefing on December 22. He said that the campus meets 'all the necessary scientific and technology requirements.' In addition, Alferov said that the territory is also a good fit because it is fully compatible with the city infrastructure.

Alferov said the project is connected with 'developing the country's electronics industry.' He is confident that semiconductors, microelectronics and optical electronics will become the most important sector of Russia's economy. 'The Russian military-industrial complex is in great danger by becoming too dependent on electronic components from abroad that change very quickly. There is also the danger that a number of electro components will become outdated and unmarketable,' he said.
