Iran-India relations essential for stability in the region

Close ties between Iran and India may guarantee stability, safety and development of the region, Iranian president Mohammad Khatami reported.

At a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Yashwant Sinha, Khatami noted Iran-Indian relations are not meant to hurt interests of any country.

Khatami appealed to the countries in the region to strive for a normalisation of the atmosphere and security in Afghanistan, excluding the presence of observers from other regions.

Sinha emphasised New Delhi's interest in widening cooperation with Tehran on various issues.
