Afghan Minister hopes for international community help in combating drug trafficking

Opium production and drug trafficking are the main destabilizing factors in Afghanistan today. Such a statement was made by the country's Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, which was published on Saturday by the Vienna department. He conducted talks in Austria with Antonio Maria Costa, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

"Afghanistan looks forward to the day when an international conference of donor countries will open early next year in Kabul and make a decision on providing funds for stepping up combating illegal production and spread of drugs via Afghanistan," the Afghan minister said.

"We expect the Kabul conference of donor countries to give a fresh impetus in support for the Afghan people in their struggle against their enemies, including drug traffickers," he concluded.
