Georgia current developments are result of ex-government's mistakes

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the latest developments in Georgia are the result of a series of mistakes by the ex-government.

"What happened in Georgia did not come as a surprise to Russia. The take-over of power is a logical result of a series of persistent mistakes the former government had made in the foreign, domestic and economic policies," the president said at a meeting with Cabinet ministers Monday.

President Putin said the ex-government had been pursing its policy taking no heed to the Georgian people's deep cultural and historic traditions and geopolitical reality.

"What we saw in the domestic policy was a helpless manoeuvring between local political forces, not a firm intention to consolidate the institutes of democracy and statehood," said the Russian president.

"The economic policy was only a humiliating struggle for foreign grants," he said.
