US has no solution to Georgian crisis

The US has no set recipes for bringing Georgia out of its current political turmoil. This was announced by US Ambassador to Georgia Richard Miles after a meeting with Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze yesterday. The meeting was devoted to the current political crisis that has emerged in Georgia after the recent elections on November 2.

The US believes the government should maintain its dialogue with the opposition and try to keep the peace in the country. According to Mr Miles, Assistant to Deputy US Secretary of State Lynn Pasco will arrive in Tbilisi today to engage in the ongoing dialogue between the Georgian government and the opposition.

The US ambassador said the Georgian government was unhappy about the activity of the Soros Foundation in Georgia. George Soros, he said, has done a great deal to promote democracy in post-soviet countries and Eastern Europe and he has been unwittingly involved in the current crisis in Georgia. Mr Miles believes that everything will settle down as soon as Georgia recovers from this crisis.
