Georgian opposition calls for civil protests

Speaking at the first session of the resistance committee's staff on Sunday, National Movement leader Mikhail Saakashvili declared that according to his information, on Monday a 2,000-strong police contingent of Adzharian autonomy will be lifted to Tbilisi from Batumi, the capital of Adzharia.

"2,000 representatives of the Adzharian police in civilian clothes are going to stage provocations in the places where the opposition organises protests against the official authorities," Saakashvili declared. According to him, President Shevardnadze does not trust the Tbilisi police. That is why he decided to use friendly assistance of Adzharia's head Aslan Abashidze.

The united Georgian opposition changes its tactics with respect to the official authorities. The opposition forces call on their supporters to begin the action of civil protests on Monday.

Journalists were told at the press centre of the National Movement that on Monday the opposition's supporters in the regions are going to barricade the doors of the local authorities' studies and thus paralyze their work.
