The Georgian election commission has decided to recount the votes of Georgians residing abroad who voted in the parliamentary elections on November 2. Moreover, the lists of Georgian citizens residing abroad will also be re-verified.
Representatives of Unified National Movement, Laborist Party and non-governmental organization Fair Elections filed suit in a Georgian court to have the votes of citizens residing abroad recounted. They believed that the number of voters residing abroad was artificially increased. A court agreed and nullified the voting results for residents who voted abroad. Approximately 80 thousand Georgian citizens who reside abroad voted in the November 2 elections. The majority of votes by citizens residing abroad went to the government party For a New Georgia, New Right and Industrialists.
