Lithuanian President does not plan to resign

'I have not violated the constitution or broken any laws and do not plan to step down from office,' said Lithuanian President Rolandas Paksas in a press conference on November 10. He made the statement in connection with suspicions that several of his advisors are being supported by international criminals. Several politicians and media are accusing Paksas of signing an agreement with the head of holding Avia Baltika Yuri Borisov, who was the main sponsor in Paksas recent political campaign for the post of president.

Paksas told journalists that he did not conclude any agreement with the Russian businessman and Borisov does not influence his activities in any way. Paksas also said that his team of advisors will be 'severely restructured in the coming days.' Paksas expressed the opinion that the Parliamentary commission and Prosecutor General's investigation, which are looking into the possible abuses of power by his advisors, was transparent. Paksas intends to cooperate with the Parliamentarians and Prosecutor General so that 'the political fog which has settled on the country will clear very soon.'
