UN considers it necessary to sign convention for Caspian Sea protection

Shafqat Kakahel, the Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), considers it necessary to sign the Convention for the Protection of the Caspian Sea.

Kakahel pointed out "the importance of the preservation of the Caspian Sea environment in present unfavorable ecological conditions" and the necessity to sign the Convention, the first legal document of the Caspian states, the press service of the UN mission in Tehran told RIA Novosti on Friday.

The framework Convention for the Protection of the Caspian Sea will be signed during the conference of authorized representatives of five Caspian states (Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan) in Tehran on November 3-4.
