Russia grants arms and munitions to Kyrgyzstan

During the opening of a Russian military base in Kant in Kyrgyzstan, Rosoboronexport /a Russian arms export company/ passed a three-million-dollar batch of arms and munitions to special units of the Kyrgyz Defence Ministry.

"The arms and munitions have been supplied, in keeping with the decision of the Russian President, for free at the expense of Rosoboronexport own resources," public relations officer Alexander Smelyakov told RIA Novosti on Thursday.

The Kyrgyz Defence Ministry "has got small arms, equipment and uniform items, means of radio communication. In addition, a Mi-8 helicopter is to be overhauled in line with the provision of military services," Smelyakov said.

"Rosoboronexport views the free supply of arms and munitions for special units of the Kyrgyz Defence Ministry as its contribution to the development and deepening of relations of friendship and co-operation between Russia and Kyrgyzstan ", Smelyakov continued.

"The successfully developing Russian - Kyrgyz contacts in the military-technical sphere target the strengthening of military, political and economic stability in Central Asia, strengthening the security of Russia and its closest allies within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation," said the spokesman for Rosoboronexport.
