Russian citizens have difficulties getting U.S. visas

During the 10th annual meeting of the US-Russia Business Council (USRBC) on Friday, head of the Russian department in the US State Department John Evans admitted that there was a problem with the issuance of entry visas to the United States.

"The American side has a problem, indeed," the diplomat underlined. He also pointed out that it concerns not only Russian citizens but also citizens of all countries. "I do not know when this issue is going to be solved," he stated, expressing hope, at the same time, that the wait is not going to be long.

John Evans reminded the participants in the meeting that the new and more complicated visa issuing procedures had been introduced after the tragic events of September 11, 2001. He also stressed that the regulatory legislation had been adopted by the US Congress.

At the same time, the US State Department official said that the US and Russian representatives were discussing the current situation. "We are working at all levels," he pointed out.

"The best solution in the present circumstances is to submit an application for entry visa way in advance," he advised those who wanted to visit the United States in the near future.
