Russian Pacific Fleet ships to pay informal visit to Hawaii

A group of the naval ships of the Russian Pacific Fleet, including the large anti-submarine ship "Marshal Shaposhnikov" and the large sea-going tanker "Pechenga," will pay an unofficial visit to the port of Honolulu (the Hawaiian Islands, the USA) in late October.

RIA Novosti was told Friday in the press center of the fleet that during their stay at the Hawaii, the Russian sailors will have a chance to acquaint themselves with their American colleagues and the history and culture of the United States.

At the end of the visit, the group of Russian naval ships will take part in the Russian-American exercise in communication and maneuvering with the aim of perfecting the knacks of joint safe sailing.

These knacks can be used in the future, in conducting possible operations on checking piracy and terrorism in the zone of the actions of the fleets of the two countries.

This will be the second visit to Honolulu by Russian ships. In 1995 this port was visited by a group of Russian naval ships, including the large anti-submarine ship "Admiral Panteleyev" (a missile frigate under NATO classification), the large landing ship "BDK-11" and the military tanker "Vladimir Kolechitsky." Since that time the ships of the US Navy have been the guests of the Pacific sailors in Vladivostok six times.
