NATO thanks Russia for intelligence information on Afghanistan

The NATO countries thanked the Russian Defense Minister for the intelligence information on Afghanistan. RIA Novosti was told about it by a high-ranking source in the Russian delegation which accompanies the Russian Defense Minister in his tour of the countries in North and South America.

"At our informal meeting in Colorado Springs all Defense Ministers of the NATO countries tanked Sergei Ivanov for the intelligence information granted to them," specified the source.

"Especially intensive work in this sphere goes on with the Canadian and German intelligence services directly in Kabul," said the source. "This is done in a constant operational regime. For instance, no minute can be lost when the information concerns the fight against terrorism," underscored the source.

He explained that though there are still no Russian servicemen in Afghanistan, there are representatives of some Russian official structures there, including those under the Defense Ministry.

"As to cooperation between the military intelligence services of Russia and the anti-Taliban coalition, it is developing very rapidly. This is also in our interests, because it concerns the common fight against international terrorism," underscored the source.

Asked why of all Russian secret services the military intelligence has reached such successes, the source answered: "Historically, all information about that country has been coming from the Defense Ministry."
