Finnish lawmakers confer with Estonian colleagues

Paavo Lipponena, the speaker of the Finnish parliament, arrived here today on an official visit to Estonia.

As related to Rosbalt in the press service of the Estonian parliament, Lipponena is accompanied by a large delegation of the Finnish legislature, including the head of the European Affairs Committee, Ville Itala, as well as the heads of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Liisa Yaakonsaari, the Finance Committee Olavi Ala-Nissalya, the Legal Affairs Committee, Tuiya Brax, Environment Committee, Pentti Tiusanen, and the general secretary of the Finnish parliament, Seppo Tiitinen. The delegation is to have meetings during the visit with President Arnold Ruutel, Prime Minister Juhan Parts and the speaker of the Estonian parliament, Ene Ergma.

It is expected that the main topic of the bilateral talks will be the question of the development and deepening of Estonian-Finnish ties in all spheres, including at the parliamentary level. In addition, during the visit the leaders of the parliaments of Estonia and Finland will take up cooperation among the governments of the Baltic region and relations with their closest neighbors.
