ABB to participate in development of Sakhalin

Swedish-Swiss company ABB will participate in a large-scale project to develop Sakhalin. According to a company press release yesterday, the project is Sakhalin II, one of the main aims of which is to create a telecommunications system on the island. ABB will invest over USD 30 million in this project.

ABB will be responsible for developing and delivering telecommunications systems for floating oil and gas production platforms and providing 800 kilometres of pipeline and equipment for two harbours. The head office for the Sakhalin II project will be located in the Norwegian city of Bergen while planning work is still going on but will then be moved to Sakhalin when the equipment is delivered. Both Russian and Norwegian engineers will take part in the project.

ABB is one of the leading companies in the world for power equipment and automation technology. The company has offices in over 100 countries and employs about 133 thousand people.
