Foreign ministers of RIO Group express political support for Russia's entry into WTO

The Foreign Minister of Russia met Foreign Ministers of three countries of the Rio Group in New York.

As the information and press department of the Russian Foreign Ministry reported on Tuesday, Igor Ivanov met Foreign Minister of Peru Allan Wagner Tizon, Foreign Minister of Costa Rica Roberto Tovar Faja and Foreign Minister of Brazil Celso Amorim on Monday in the context of the 58th session of the UN General Assembly.

On the part of the Rio Group, this meeting was also attended by Foreign Ministers Roy Chaderton (Venezuela), Francisco Guerrero Prats (the Dominican Republic) and Didier Opertti (Uruguay) and national coordinators from other countries of the Rio Group.

The ministers discussed questions of international cooperation, in particular in the fight against terrorism on the basis of the UN decisions, the perfection of the potential of the United Nations for carrying out operations on maintaining peace within the framework of the general process of reforming the UN. They came out for the adaptation of the United Nations to the changes that have taken place in the world arena, reported the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The Foreign Ministers of the Rio Group countries expressed political support for Russia's earliest entry into the World Trade Organisation, the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out.

The Rio Group was founded in 1986 to stop military conflicts in the Central American countries, including the civil wars in Salvador and Nicaragua in the '80s. It consists of twelve Latin American countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
