Technical meeting on Zakayev case to be held in London

On Wednesday the London city court in Bow Street will hold a meeting within the hearings on extradition of emissary of the Chechen separatists Akhmed Zakayev to Russia.

As judge Timothy Workman announced after the end of the main hearings last Friday, the date of the last debates of the sides after which the judge will have to deliver his final verdict on the case must be fixed today.

Zakayev himself is still at large on the former conditions: some time after his arrest in Great Britain he was let out on a bail of 50,000 pounds sterling deposited for him by actress Vanessa Redgrave.

The representatives of prosecution and defence submitted the documents on the case they avail of to the court.

The documents on the case in Russian and English already occupy several volumes.

At the beginning of the meeting representative of the Crown Prosecution Service James Lewis handed to the judge a letter signed by Russian Prosecutor-General Vladimir Ustinov guaranteeing that if Akhmed Zakayev is extradited to Russia he will be kept in an investigatory isolation ward controlled by the Ministry of Justice.
