German company Demag wins tender to supply Severstal with technical equipment

German company Demag will supply Severstal technical equipment for constructing a production line of polymeric covering with a capacity of 200 thousand tonnes of metal per year. The Severstal press service said yesterday that 11 foreign companies participated in the tender for supplying the equipment, which was announced in April 2003. Finalists were Austrian company Voest Alpine, Italian company Fata Hunter, Sundwig and Demag.

The contract between Demag and Severstal will be signed later this month. The launching of the new production line is set for March 2005. Severstal is the largest Russian producer of steel and metal products. It is also the flagship company in the Severstal Group holding. In 2002 total production of rolled metal at Severstal increased in comparison with 2001 by 5.6% and reached 8.53 million tonnes. The company plans to produce more than 8.7 million tonnes of rolled metal in 2003.
