Tiraspol is for formation of two equal states federation

Only the principle of equality of the subjects (Moldavia and Transdniestria) on a contractual basis can ensure inner political and geopolitical stability of the common state. Igor Smirnov, the leader of the Transdniestrian Moldavian Republic, said on Monday at the meeting on the occasion of the 13th anniversary of declaration of independence of this still non-recognised republic.

According to him, this principle fully accords with the Moscow memorandum of 1997 and the European models of federal states and in no way infringes upon the interests of the people of Moldavia. More than that, this will make it possible to restore confidence and a full scale co-operation between Kishinev and Tiraspol, believes Smirnov.

The necessary condition for jointly working out and a possible adoption of the Constitution of the common state is, in the opinion of the leader of Transdniestria, the discussion of the draft Constitution by the people of both states and its approval at the referendum by each of them.
