South Korea's warship comes to attend Russian Pacific fleet exercise

A destroyer of the Republic of Korea navy Ylchi Mundok has today arrived in Vladivostok, the main base of the Russian Pacific fleet. It will participate in a comprehensive military exercise of the Pacific fleet, such as giving help to a ship in distress in open sea, the RIA Novosti correspondent was told at the fleet's press service. After a brief mooring in Vladivostok, the South Korean destroyer left for the area of the exercise.

The active phase of this exercise, Russia's largest in recent years, begins today. Over 68 ships and motorboats, 42 auxiliary ships, 50 planes and helicopters, up to 30,000 servicemen and civilian personnel are involved. The main specificity of the wargame is that only one fourth of the missions to be performed are purely military. Most episodes to be acted out are - emergency situations, environmental and man-cased calamities, the struggle against terrorism, smuggling and poaching in Russia's territorial waters.
