Quicker Lithuanian visa issue for Russian exclave residents

Lithuania's Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas has formed a working group authorised to submit for government consideration Visa Issue Bills before December 1, reports the Lithuanian government press-service. These measures are to be taken in light of Lithuania's joining the European Union and its borders becoming the EU borders.

The Lithuanian foreign ministry has embarked on auditing at the embassies and consular offices in Russia, Belorussia and Ukraine. At the initiative of the Lithuanian consular-general's office in Kaliningrad (a Russian exclave on the Baltic sea), the Lithuanian foreign ministry has allowed to reduce the terms of free visa issue for Kaliningrad residents from 14 days to five days, said Vytaitas Zalis, consular-general in Kaliningrad.
