Today the Ukrainian capital hosts the opening of the World Ukrainian Congress attended by over 350 delegates and 200 guests from over 20 countries.
The participants intend to discuss the problems of Ukrainians who live abroad. They will consider the perspectives of adopting the law on the foreign Ukrainian status by Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada, the problem of preserving Ukrainian national self-identification, the Ukrainian language, culture and traditions in the countries where ethnic Ukrainians live.
At present 18-20 million ethnic Ukrainians live outside Ukraine, for example, in Russia, Canada, the USA, Kazakhstan Moldova, Brazil, Poland, Argentina and Australia.
