Swedish Environment Minister Lena Sommestad has expressed her concern that Russian LUKoil is planning to drill a test hole in the continental shelf of the Baltic Sea. She told journalists yesterday that the Baltic coast is very sensitive from an ecological point of view and recommended countries bordering the Baltic Sea to take closer interest in how the sea's natural resources are used.
She said she hoped to hold constructive negotiations about LUKoil's plans with her Russian colleague during a summit of environment ministers from Northern European countries, which will take place in Luleo at the end of August.
