Maritime Territory police establish contacts with South Korean police

A delegation of policemen from the Republic of Korea arrived in the Maritime Territory on Tuesday.

As the RIA Novosti correspondent was told in the territorial Interior Department, the criminal police of the Maritime Territory and the South Korean police intend to establish business contacts and to exchange operational information.

During the five-day visit by the delegation the sides will discuss the draft treaty on cooperation and on exchanging information.

It has also been planned to work out measures for combating trans-border crime, for jointly investigating crimes, searching for criminals, organising mutual practicals for specialists, and countering the distribution of drugs and psychotropic substances.

The necessity of cooperation became urgent already long ago. Only in 2002, twelve citizens of the Republic of Korea fell victims to criminals in the Maritime Territory; during the six months this year four South Koreans suffered from the criminals.

On the other hand, 84 citizens of South Korea were called to account administratively for violating the rules of stay in the territory of Russia.

Direct contacts will make it possible to disclose the crimes more quickly and efficiently.
