The population of Russia is likely to fall by 18% over the next half a century, according to the Population Reference Bureau. Researchers believe that by 2050 the population will have fallen from its current level of 145.5 million to 119 million. They also predict that India will become the most populous country in the world, with 1.628 billion inhabitants, followed by China with 1.394 billion. The US will rank third with 422 million people.
In the CIS the most catastrophic fall will be in Georgia, where the population will drop by 43% from 4.7 million to 2.6 million. In Ukraine the population will fall by 20%, in Belarus by 14% and in Kazakhstan by 10%. The biggest gains will be made by Turkmenistan and Tajikistan - 55% and 53% respectively.
Over the past week (September 17-23), Russian troops carried out 12 strikes with the use of long-range precision weapons and drones targeting army bases of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
