About 48,000 Russian citizens have crossed the Russian-Lithuanian border since the new transit rules came into force, the Lithuanian State Border Protection Service reported.
In compliance with the agreements between Russia, the EU and Lithuania, the procedure of transit to Kaliningard, Russia's enclave in the Baltic separated from the rest of Russia by Lithuania and Belarus, has been simplified.
Lithuanian frontier guards took off the transit trains 132 passengers who did not have necessary documents on them. It happened during the first two days after the new rules had come into force.
Otherwise the new transit procedure introduced on July 1, 2003, is well coordinated, the Border Protection Service reported.
