Russian Foreignmin speaks out for developing programme of settling Israeli relations Syria and Lebanon

During his meetings with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher and the Arab League's Secretary General Amr Moussa Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov discussed results of the meeting of the four intermediaries for Mideastern settlement and measures to seek peace in the Middle East.

The parties were unanimous about the necessity for control over the peace process by the world community, first of all the 4 intermediaries of Russia, the US, the EU, the UN and other parties concerned to provide steady advance, the Russian Foreign Ministry informed RIA Novosti on Monday. In this connection the sides stressed the importance of forming an efficient system to verify compliance with the Road Map, which can be joined by influential regional states apart from the "quartet" of mediators.

For the time being there is a real chance to overcome the protracted Palestinian-Israeli confrontation and resume political negotiations on the basis of the Road Map, which has been worked out by the quartet and "which is the only workable scheme today to stop the crisis", the sides stated.

Besides, it was pointed out that all the sides must embrace the process of Arab- Israeli settlement with no exceptions. "In this context Ivanov spoke out for working out a programme of practical efforts to resume peaceful trends between Israel and Syria, Israel and Lebanon," the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.

The meeting of the four intermediaries for Mideastern settlement took place in Jordan on Sunday, June 22nd.
