New Kaliningrad travel scheme to be launched on June 16

Issuing of travel documents for trips to the Kaliningrad Region (a Russian enclave on the Baltic coast) will start on June 16 throughout Russia.

The Railway Ministry press service told RIA Novosti that the Russian railways would provide free visa support for those buying tickets to Kaliningrad, in line with the new mechanism of transit via the Lithuanian Republic.

Booking offices will submit passengers' data to the Lithuanian Embassy in Moscow to get transit permission. Response will follow in 24 hours, and, if Lithuania does not object, a passenger can set off. Tickets will be sold immediately to those who have obtained entry visas.

If Lithuania does not permit a passenger to travel via its territory, booking offices will take tickets back without any deductions.
