Operation against Taliban in Afghanistan

In the south and southeast of Afghanistan, government troops and forces of the US-led antiterrorist coalition stepped up their struggle against Taliban.

In Aragasan, Kandahar, not far from the Pakistani border, 150 soldiers of the government troops killed four and captured five mujahedin, reported News newspaper.

According to Fayaz Khan, the head of the local administration, some of the Taliban had arrived from Pakistan. Among those killed was a field commander called Abdullah, who used to head a group of 50 Taliban hiding in the Tang Mountains. The government troops seized a large quantity of automatic weapons and missiles, reported Khan, adding that the search for Taliban was still in process.

In Nangarhar, 40 kilometers from the Pakistani border, up to 500 soldiers and officers of the 82 Airborne Division from the USA were engaged in an operation code-named Dragon Fury. So far, they have captured only four people, whom they suspect of being linked to Taliban, the newspaper wrote.
