US wants Russia to increase oil exports

The US is interested in increasing supplies of Russian oil to the North-American and other markets. A high-ranking US diplomat told a press conference in St. Petersburg yesterday that 'US companies are interested in the rapid construction of new pipelines to connect Russia to other countries.' The diplomat said that US companies were particularly interested in building a pipeline from Western Siberia to Murmansk. 'Of course, it isn't clear whether foreign companies will be able to participate in the construction, but if they can, US companies will be striving to enter this project,' he stressed. According to the diplomat, the US also sees joint development of the Arctic shelf and projects in Sakhalin as important. 'These are probably the main projects that we can name from a long list,' the diplomat said.
