Turkmen President made present to St. Petersburg polytechnic university

Tukkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov has presented the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University with $ 100,000, the Turkmen President's press service has reported.

On Saturday in St. Petersburg Niyazov met professors and teachers of the university, which he had graduated from in 1967. The Turkmen President stressed the great role of his studies in St. Petersburg "in his personal and professional development".

"It is a great honour for me to grant you the money symbolising my immense gratitude to the teachers, who to a certain extent had substituted my parents to me, an orphan".

The Turkmen leader invited a delegation from the polytechnic university to visit the republic and participate in its independence celebrations this October.

At the meeting Saparmurat Niyazov was handed a diploma of Honoured Doctor of the St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University.
