G-8 Evian summit to adopt 12 documents

The G-8 summit, due in Evian on June 1-3, is expected to bring forth 12 documents, the Russian president's economic adviser Andrei Illarionov has said.

"The schedule of the summit is impressive - about 12 different documents are to be adopted", he said.

They can be divided into three groups according to the content of negotiations - the economy, sustainable development, security and anti-terrorism. The documents are expected to be adopted as they will be discussed by the G-8 leaders.

To be adopted in the first instance are - a fair market economy declaration, a plan of action against corruption and towards a higher level of transparency in the economy, a document related to trade negotiations within the World Trade Organization.

The sustainable development area expects the adoption of documents on -- debts and further steps towards the easing of the debt burden; water; health protection; hunger above all in Africa; science and technologies; ensurance of environmental safety in oceans and safe tanker shipping.

As regards security and the struggle against terrorism, the G-8 leaders are expected to approve a plan of action on global partnership, a plan of action on transport safety, a document on the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
