Siamese twin sisters, Lale and Ladan Bijani, who are staying at a medical centre in Singapore, look towards the SARS epidemic slump in the region for the beginning of their separation operation.
The Sada va Sima TV company reported on Monday that an unprecedented operation to separate Siamese twins will begin in one or two-month time.
"Despite great difficulties, our doctors decided the best method of performing the operation will be in several stages," Lale and Ladan pointed out.
Three months ago the Singaporean doctors were not sure the operation will be successful. The thing is that Lale and Ladan have two independent brains in one skull. The lethal outcome or the damagebreach of the brain's functions are not ruled out.
In 1996, Lale and Ladan were investigated in Germany, and the doctors there refused to perform such a complex operation.
Now, the 28-year old Lale and Ladan have been undergone all the necessary procedures. The operation will be performed by the best Singaporean neurosurgeons.
