Igor Ivanov left Stockholm for Paris to attend meeting of G-8 Foreign Ministers

Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov has left Stockholm for Paris to participate in the meeting of the G-8 Foreign Ministers.

On Thursday, Igor Ivanov will participate in the international conference Drug Trafficking from Central Asia to Europe.

The meeting of the G-8 Foreign Ministers will be held on May 23rd in Paris. Preparations for the upcoming Evian summit of the G-8 Presidents scheduled for June 1st-3rd will be a key issue at the negotiations.

Key international and regional problems like non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the Iraqi crisis and the Middle East settlement will also be on the agenda of the meeting. The meeting participants will also touch upon the North Korean nuclear programme, the Afghan situation, Indian-Pakistani relations and the fight against international terrorism.

Besides, they will discuss a possibility to increase the financing of such international organisations as the IAEA, a high ranking representative of the Russian delegation has informed RIA Novosti. The G-8 Foreign Ministers are expected to pass a joint statement on these issues, the source added.
