Georgia to enforce rights of ethnic Russians in republic

Georgia intends to enforce the rights of citizens of non-Georgian nationalities.

The enforcement of the rights of Russians in Georgia is an important aspect of improving Russian-Georgian interaction, said leader of the Georgian Socialist party and member of the pro-presidential election bloc Vakhtang Rcheulishvili, when speaking at the international practical conference "Unions and Clubs of Compatriots in the South Caucasian countries" in Tbilisi on Wednesday.

"We have many citizens of Russian origin and we are proud that Georgia is a multinational state," Rcheulishvili emphasized.

According to official statistics, 170,000 Russians are at present residing in Georgia. On the whole South Caucasian countries have approximately 500,000 Russians.
