UN Registers Status of EurAsEc as International Organisation

The UN has registered the status of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) as an international organisation.

As the press service of the EurAsEC reported, in keeping with Article 102 of the UN Charter, the Treaty on Establishment of the EurAsEC was registered in the UN Secretariat.

A copy of the respective certificate has already been received by the secretariat of the EurAsEC Integration Committee.

Having expressed satisfaction in connection with this fact, EurAsEC general secretary Grigory Rapota stressed that the Community has been consistently following the road of attainment of the aims and accomplishment of the tasks proclaimed by the heads of five states in the treaty on approval of the EurAsEC.

The matter concerns first of all effective promotion of the process of the formation of a customs union and single economic space, and deepening of integration in the humanitarian sphere.

As Rapota said, the meeting of the EurAsEC Interstate Council at the level of heads of state, which was recently held in Dushanbe and at which the priority directions of the Community's development for 2003-2006 were approved, marked a milestone on this road.

Rapota noted that among these directions a perceptible place is held by interaction of the EurAsEC partners in the real sector of the economy, including the joint development of the energy market and the formation of a transport union.

The EurAsEC includes Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.

Armenia, Moldova and Ukraine have the status of observer at the EurAsEC.
