DPRK Offered USA to Guarantee its Security in Exchange for Removing Fears over Nuclear Programme

At the recent talks with the USA and China in Beijing North Korea proposed guaranteeing its security in exchange for removing the fears over its nuclear develpments. By the information from Seoul, Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea Yun Yong-gwang said this to journalists on Tuesday.

Speaking in parliament's special committee for development of inter-Korean relations, Yun Yong-gwang noted that the Seoul government is studying the DPRK's proposal.

At the end of last week the head of the U.S. delegation at the tripartite meeting in Beijing, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State James Kelly, visited South Korea and Japan and informed the US allies of the results of the talks with the DPRK. But the contents of the talks was not made public before his return to the USA.

According to reports from Washington, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell confirmed on Monday that the American side is studying Pyongyang's proposal on renunciation of the nuclear and missile programme in exchange for giving substantial economic benefits to it.

According to Yonhap agency, Yun Yong-gwang also confirmed that in Beijing head of the DPRK delegation Li Gun had really recognised that Pyongyang has nuclear weapons.

"If North Korea's claim about the possession of nuclear arms is true it is a serious violation of the anti-nuclear declaration on the Korean Peninsula and of other international norms", the head of Seoul diplomacy emphasized.
