Geidar Aliyev's State of Health "Satisfactory"

Azerbaijani President Geidar Aliyev is feeling "satisfactory," Deputy Chairman of the Milli Majlis, or the upper house of the Azerbaijani parliament, Arif Gafar Ragim-Zade told journalists on Tuesday.

The Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation is currently visiting Moscow.

According to Ragim-Zade, the delegation is getting news of Aliyev's health via the Azerbaijani embassy to Moscow, which keeps in touch with Baku. "We have no worries about his health," he added.

On Monday, Aliyev was taken ill while delivering a speech in Baku. He suddenly stopped speaking and clutched at his chest. Security guards were near him in an instant and led him backstage. At that moment, the live broadcasting was interrupted.

The program was resumed after a ten minutes' pause, during which the TV aired the channel's logo. The camera once again showed Aliyev on the rostrum, looking much as usual. He continued with his speech but interrupted it again, this time falling down and bumping his head on the floor. Once again, he was led out of the hall by security guards. Nevertheless, he was back on the stage a short while later.

Aliyev's press service blamed the incident on low blood pressure.
