Hussein Could Escape to Libya, Sudan or Afghanistan or is Hiding on Iraq's Territory

By the versions of the Arab mass media, Saddam Hussein could escape to Libya, Sudan or Afghanistan, or is hiding on the territory of Iraq. Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan Jawad al-Awani who is living in the UAE stated to local TV that if Saddam Hussein is alive he is most likely to be staying in Libya, or is being hided by the Islamists in Sudan, or crossed Iran onto the territory of Afghanistan.

The fomer high-ranking diplomat did not rule it out that Syria or Iran could give a refuge to Hussein and his entourage.

Arab observers note that Saddam Hussein always paid imense attention to ensuring his personal security and certainly drew up plans of his escape and prepared a reliable shelter. In particular, he may be hiding in caves in the Haramein mountains or is being hidden by the local tribes which are loyal to him on the territory of Iraq, analysts believe.

Saudi newspaper Asharq Al Aswat earlier wrote that the head of the Libyan opposition Idris al-Senussi, a grandson of the King of Libya who was overthrown in 1969, told the Americans that a private Libyan aircraft had brought a group of Iraqis from Damascus to an air base near Tripoli early in the morning on April 10. The electronic newspaper Alefiya writes that the Iraqi government has bought 12 villas north of the city of Benghazi in the east of Libya.
