UN Humanitarian Organisations in Iraq Accuse U.S. of Inability to End Marauding

The United Nations humanitarian organisations operating in Iraq accuse the United States of the inability to cut short looting, chaos and civil disobedience raging in the country. These organisations have asked the occupation force for protection to be able to give help to the population, said the UN information centre in Moscow on Thursday.

In the opinion of Veronique Taveau, a representative of the UN humanitarian co-ordinator in Iraq, the occupation force should handle problems emerging from the collapse of civilian rule in Iraq's two largest cities of Baghdad and Basra. She believes that, in line with international law, it bears responsibility for the provision of security for the civilian population of Iraq.

The United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, warns that, despite the noticeable success in trucking humanitarian aid across the border, the first attempts to give it to children and women have been hampered by the effects of fear and chaos.
