USA to Govern Iraq Dividing It Into 3 Regions?

The Reconstruction and Humanitarian Aid Department set up by George Bush's Administration for Iraq's postwar reconstruction will consider a possibility of governing the country by dividing it into three regions: southern, central and northern.

This news was reported from Kuwait by the Japanese Kyodo Tsushin news agency that quoted Councillor of the Japanese Cabinet Yukio Okamoto after his talks with the Department's head, U.S. Army General (Ret.) Jay Garner. Garner was appointed to this post on Monday, April 7th.

Okamoto urged the US occupation administration that is being formed in Iraq to hand the power to the civilian government as soon as possible.

In turn, Garner announced that heads of the Department's three subdivisions, for reconstruction, humanitarian aid and civilian administration had already been appointed. He assured that assistance for Iraq's restoration would start "in the near future", the news agency reported.
