Belarus Has Destroyed 584 Medium and Short-Range Nuclear Rockets

Belarus has taken significant steps in the nuclear disarmament process. As a Rosbalt correspondent was informed at the Belarus Interior Ministry today, this was announced by Victor Ribakov, head of the Belarus delegation at a UN meeting in New York devoted to disarmament.

He said that Russia had willingly rejected nuclear weapons and completed their withdrawal from Belarus territory in 1997. He also pointed out that Belarus had 'ratified the universal ban on nuclear testing in 2000.' Mr Ribakov added that Belarus is continuing to carry out its obligations in the area of nuclear disarmament. For example, as part of the agreement on medium and short-range nuclear rockets, Belarus has destroyed 584 such rockets along with their launchers and support equipment.

'Belarus is convinced that disarmament measures must be taken in order to reduce the danger of nuclear weapons, with the eventual aim of destroying nuclear weapons altogether,' said Mr Ribakov.
