EU to assign 250 million euros to Afghanistan

The European Commission, the EU supreme executive body, has assigned an additional 70 million euros to Afghanistan, increasing the sum Kabul is to receive from the EU budget in 2002 to 250 million euros. The decision is to be approved by the European parliament and the EU Council.

The EU has promised to allocate 1 billion euros from 2002 till 2006 to render assistance to Afghanistan's transitional administration in building authorities' infrastructure in the centre and in provinces, as well as fulfilling projects of health care, social security, energy and water supply in Kabul.
