Moldavia's President supports country's federalisation plan

Moldavia's President Vladimir Voronin supports the country's integration plan, proposed to Chisinau and Tiraspol at a meeting held early in July in Kiev with participation of representatives from Russia, Ukraine and the OSCE.

This was said in the presidential address to Moldavian people, published in Chisinau's official mass media on Wednesday. The headline of the address is "Unification of the country - main condition for establishing Moldavia's autonomy".

"The country's integration plan, proposed by the OSCE, is likely to come into the century's history. This is the first plan, which will not draw the line between two opposing parties, but unite them, settle the conflicts, establish historically tested forms of possible state constitution," the president states.

"Although the plan contains a number of controversial details and may be rewritten and accomplished, it is necessary to preserve the positive spirit of the document. It is important that for the first time we will have a real and interesting issue to discuss," says the president of Moldavia.

"Incredulous accusations of the new Transdniestria settlement plan in being pro-western or pro-Russian have no grounds and are a proof of these experts back knowledge," he said.

"I hope that the country will be able to give a credible and balanced assessment of the chance that we got early in July and politicians will stop scaring people with old and frightening slogans and think over the fact that this chance has only one alternative, which is obvious. It is today's Moldova separated and miserable," Voronin's address reads.
